Editorial process

Chornancap Revista Jurídica begins its editorial process when the author's registration is completed, which will allow him/her to enter the submission platform and submit all the documentation of his manuscript.

The editorial management process takes approximately sixteen (16) weeks, beginning with the receipt of the manuscript and concluding with the publication of the article.

1. Preliminary review

Once the articles are received, they will be evaluated by the editors and/or members of the journal's editorial team to corroborate the following:

  • The articles must be original and unpublished, for which the Turnitin iThenticate anti-plagiarism software is used, with a maximum of twenty percent (20%) similarity being admissible.
  • Verification of the subject of the article and its relation to the thematic dossier proposed for the issue of the journal or, failing that, if they are in line with the research lines of the journal.
  • Compliance with the “Norms for authors”, according to the type of manuscript submitted.

In this preliminary phase, the journal's editorial team, if necessary, will contact the corresponding author in order to correct the observations and resubmit the article within a period not exceeding 7 days. Once the corrected version of the manuscript is submitted, it will be sent to the reviewers, otherwise, the editorial process will be concluded. If the author requires an extension, he/she may request it before the deadline for correction has expired.

The manuscript may be rejected at this stage, and may not be submitted until the next call for papers, where it will be re-evaluated by the Editorial Team.

2. Blind peer review

Once the reviewers have been mapped, according to their specialty and expertise, in accordance with the Guidelines for reviewers, they will be appointed and the double-blind peer review phase will begin, i.e., both reviewers and authors will not know each other's identities. In the event of any conflict of interest, the reviewers will inform the Editorial Team and the invitation will be eliminated, canceling their participation.

Once the reviewers have been appointed and accepted the invitation, they have 15 days to carry out the review and issue the respective opinion, which is sent to them in advance (see form), to facilitate the evaluation process. This period may be extended, depending on the reviewer's needs.

The reviewers will be able to issue their opinion under the following options:

  • Publishable, without modifications: if the article does not need major content changes..
  • Publishable, if the suggested changes of form and/or substance are made: if the article needs some clarifications of form, such as corrections of citations, modifications of style or other minor adjustments suggested by the reviewer. Also, if the article needs major changes, involving conceptual aspects or reworking of the theme or structure. The author must absolve these observations and send the reformulated article within a period not exceeding 15 days. The Editorial Team will evaluate whether or not the indications were absolved in a period not longer than 7 days.
  • Not publishable: if the article cannot be published for various academic reasons or the research does not meet the editorial quality requirements.

If there is a discrepancy between the two reviewers, the editor will send the manuscript to a third reviewer who will determine, taking into account the opinions of the previous two reviewers, whether the article is approved for publication, approved with revisions or rejected. This stage may not exceed 21 calendar days.

A manuscript that is rejected may not be submitted until the next call for papers, when it will again be submitted to double-blind peer review.

3. Editing and publication

After the double-blind peer review, the editing stage begins, proceeding to adapt the wording and style, adjust the initial and final parts of the manuscript, review the translation of titles, abstracts, keywords and layout; concluding when the authors approve the final version of the edition.

Finally, the publication stage, comprising the marking, DOI assignment and publication of the articles on the official website of the Chornancap Revista Jurídica.

The published articles are open access and will be under the Creative Commons 4.0 International license (CC-BY 4.0). The authors retain the copyright, granting a first publication license to Chornancap Revista Jurídica, for which the authors sign the respective document (See doc.).

Authors are free to archive the post-print version (the version published in the journal) in personal websites, repositories, blogs, institutional pages or any other electronic media, as long as they provide bibliographic information that proves their first publication.
